Recycling at Dover

Recycling at Dover is managed by the Facilities Department and student groups such as Green Campus Service, Junior Eco-Rangers and Boarders Environmental Committee

What can be recycled at Dover?

Office / Classroom Paper
Cardboard
Cans
Tetra Cartons
Yakult Bottle
Plastic Drink Bottle
I.T/eWaste

Food and Beverage Packaging Waste

Recycling is difficult in Singapore - all materials have to be sent overseas for processing and systems are constantly changing. (See this great story and video to find out more).
Hence please see our Reduce and Re-use pages for more tips on how to reduce waste on campus before recycling. However the following items on campus can be definitely recycled either by our regular waste collector or our partners the Buddha Tzu chi Organisation.

  • Cans can be recycled using the yellow bins around the plaza.
  • Plastic drink bottles (including Yakult) and Tetra (drink box) cartons can be recycled in the small blue bins.
  • Any clear 'plastic' drinks containers and paper coffee cups from Sodexo outlets cannot currently be recycled and should be put in the black bins with normal trash. These are compostable plant-based materials and we are looking into a new system for these.
  • Nespresso capsules can be brought to the bin in Main Reception. Any Nespresso orders to the College should be delivered to Main Reception as this facilitates the pickup of the used capsules.
  • Don't forget food waste only in red-topped bins

Electrical Items

  • Yellow e-waste bins are located in the recycling centre beside the ropes course and in the underground car park beside Music Department. When the bin is full the e-waste is collected by Cimelia, which has an extensive recycling plant in Tuas.

  • There are also two green e-waste bins located indoors, one by the Main library and one by the lifts near Reception. The green bins are emptied by Starhub when they are full
  • Community members are welcome to drop off any e-waste they may have, including old computers, monitors, mice, cables, dvd players, phone chargers etc. Unfortunately, we are not able to recycle batteries or kitchen appliances.
  • Mobile phones that are in good working order can always be donated (with chargers if possible) to the boarding houses, where they can be used by the National Committee students

Paper

  • All classrooms, offices and pods should have paper recycling bins, usually a labelled cardboard box. This is managed and collected by Green Campus Service group.
  • For Office & Classroom paper, Newspaper and Magazines only. Strictly no tissue, food packaging, coffee cups etc.
  • Card boxes can be left beside normal waste bins.

Please contact our Environmental Stewardship Co-ordinators for further information or request for replacement bins:

  1. Many people have fatigue awareness around recycling and it is by making the issue more personally relevant we can again bring it to the forefront.
